Recent Staples High School graduate Sarah Cooperman, Gault Energy & Stone's 2011-2012 Fairfield County Arctic Ambassador, shared her experience at the Polar Bears International (PBI) Youth Leadership Camp in Churchill, Manitoba, Canada with Westport Public Library polar bear enthusiasts on July 8th.  Cooperman's lively and at times touching presentation included photos she took of endangered ice bears in their natural habitat, a wilderness area known as the Polar Bear Capital of the World. With PBI scientists and teens from all over the world, Cooperman studied the environmental impact of climate change on the polar bear population. As Fairfield County's Arctic Ambassador, Cooperman returned home to promote energy conservation and the small things people can do to reduce their carbon footprint and save the polar bear's icy environment.  In honor of Gault Energy & Stone's 150th anniversary and its 10-year alliance with PBI, the library will host an exhibit titled, "Canary in the Coal Mine: The Plight of the Polar Bear -- and Planet Earth", running August 16-December 1 in the Riverwalk Display Case.
