Westport Honors Little League Baseball, Softball Champs!

Droves of supported lined Westport's Main Street Monday to celebrate Westport's Little League 12U All-Stars baseball team -- No. 4 in the world -- and the 10-11 softball team, the state champions.

The 10-11 Westport softball team, who is led by head coach Mark McWhirter and the help of coaches Lou Alfero and Andre Klein, was the first softball team in Westport history to win the state championship.

The Westport 12U All-Stars baseball team and New England Championships, who not only made it to the U.S. Championship game in the famous Little League World Series, but came back only the day before from a 13-6 deficit to win a 14-13 thriller against the Sammasmish, Washington team.

The boy's manager, Tim Rogers, spoke about the team's hometown support, "It really touched them. It inspired the kids and motivated them. They felt they were clearly special to the town -- and the feeling is mutual."

What an amazing run for both teams!  Congratulation on an amazing summer!  Each team showed astonishing character, heart and sportsmanship!
